'Offended' Stamp

Description

Lately I've been seeing a lot of stamps that go on about how "oh, if you're offended by something, then it's your own fault and you should just suck it up and blah blah blah stop being such a baby blah blah blah".

Um, I'm sorry? If you say or do something that someone might find offensive, then they have as much of a right to feel offended as they do to feel any other emotion. Everyone has their own unique definition for what they consider acceptable behaviour and what they consider offensive, and, believe it or not, it might not match yours. And if you simply want to have a relaxed, peaceful conversation with the person, then you should respect their right to feel the way that they do about a certain thing. It doesn't mean you have to agree with them- it's simply a gesture of courtesy.

Take foul language, as a perfect example. You may argue "oh, bad words are only offensive if you mean them in an offensive way". Perhaps this is how some people feel about them, but why do you suppose they're called "bad" words to begin with? It's because they were originally intended to be used for offensive purposes. So when you go dropping them after every other word, of course some people are going to be offended by them, even if you mean them in a light-hearted manner. That's simply the way that some people feel about them, and their views on the matter are technically no more or less correct than yours. It's simply a matter of perspective. The same can be said for most "offensive" material.

Disagreeing with someone's feelings towards something doesn't mean that you can't get along with them. If you want them to respect you, then you must first respect their feelings. Don't go shoving your ideology down their throats, or tell them to get over it, because that just makes everybody upset. Simply try to avoid doing whatever it is that's offending them in the first place, and you should be okay. Please, stop turning this into such a big deal, because it really isn't.

That is all.
